Education Solutions

WelleXceed education solutions teach people about the cost of their care and specific alternatives with cost information that apply to their unique situation. WelleXceed targets both the employer and employees with detailed information on the financial impact of past healthcare choices and suggestions for future choices that will positively impact costs without affecting care quality. These educational reports maintain open communications with members, empower them to make positive changes, help them better manage their own health and visualize the results of wise, cost-effective decisions.

A recent study showed that approximately 12% - 15% of the total annual healthcare expenditures in the U.S. are the result of unnecessary care due to uninformed choices.  This was estimated to be $750 per employee per year. Most of this inappropriate and unnecessary utilization lies within the pharmacy benefit.  Pharmacy benefit managers may be able to provide some alternative therapy guidelines.  However, these do not include over-the-counter alternatives or non-formulary brand alternatives that may be equally effective therapeutically but at a lower cost.

The WelleXceed education program targets 100% of employees, their spouses and children with unique claims data in an easy to read and understand format. As WelleXceed seeks to motivate these employees and their dependents to manage their health better through lifestyle change, we also look to educate them on how and where they spend their dollars. WelleXceed provides a monthly statement showing what employees purchased in terms of prescriptions, ER care, and physician office visits and what they might have been able to do that would have made a financial improvement without sacrificing quality of care.  Through personal experiential illustration people learn more quickly and thoroughly how to manage their healthcare dollars.

WelleXceed supports healthcare reimbursement arrangements (HRAs), health savings accounts (HSAs) and a variety of non-tax-advantaged accounts for consumer-driven healthcare plans by providing the complete healthcare price tag for both the patient and the health plan.  When coupled with incentives, this educational tool can provide significant inducement for plan participants to “do the right thing” for themselves and the plan.

A nurse support line, staffed by registered nurses and supported by physicians, is available 24/7 for employees and dependents to contact with questions prior to or following medical care.  Participants that are not involved in the personal health coaching aspect of WelleXceed can still receive personalized attention from registered pharmacists (R.Ph.) to discuss their statements, advise on the potential impact of discussing suggested changes in healthcare purchasing with their physicians and approach utilizers of medications for chronic illnesses such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes about nutritional support therapy. 

All WelleXceed participants also have access to the “Health Action Minute” video series, written and produced by a renowned psychologist and behavioral science adviser to the World Health Organization. These short and powerful videos offer practical, usable information on how to incorporate diet, and exercise into people’s busy everyday lives.  They are designed to be real help, not just an information dump.
