State-Level Reforms Put Pharmacy Benefits at Crossroads

States across the U.S. are weighing legislative action that could have sweeping implications on how pharmacy benefits are designed, accessed, and administered. More than 1,500 bills that explore a range of issues, including spread pricing, steering, and rebates, have been introduced so far this year, and many have passed. Some provisions have already gone into effect, and yet more are on track to do so by the end of the year. The extent of the impact depends on the state, with added complications for employers operating in multiple states.
