Get to Know: Nathan White, RxBenefits’ New Chief Client Officer

In December 2019, RxBenefits announced a major leadership change. Nathan White, former Vice President of Hospital and Strategic Markets, accepted the role of Chief Client Officer (CCO) following Cynthia Johnson’s transition to Vice Chair. Although Nathan is a veteran of the pharmacy benefits industry, not many people know too much about his life outside of his very busy and successful career.

Fun facts about Nathan:

  • He is the youngest of four boys.
  • He and his wife operate a black angus farm in Florida.
  • He is a family man with two young children.
  • He is a self-proclaimed, die-hard Buffalo Bills fan.

Small Town Beginnings

Nathan White grew up in a small town nestled in the mountains of upstate New York called Tioga Center. Of growing up, he reminisces about the summers he spent working his first job and visiting his family’s fish camp in the Adirondack Mountains with his parents and four older brothers. He comes from a family of working parents, his mother at a local jewelry store, and his father as an aeronautical engineer.

“I have a work ethic that came from my family. I’m the youngest of four boys and by far the least successful of us,” Nathan says jokingly with a laugh. “But that shows the importance of the values that my parents instilled in us, and I think that demonstrates much of who I am today.”

Early Career

Nathan went on to attend the State University of New York at Fredonia where he earned a degree in Health Services Administration. His first postgraduate job was in the call center of a small third-party administrator (TPA) firm outside of Buffalo, NY, called North American Health Plans.

“When I reflect on that job, I think it truly is where I got my start in the world,” Nathan reflects. “Answering the phone day-in and day-out, I was able to learn a lot about how to help others, which taught me a lot about myself in return.”

Free Time Means Family

Nathan eventually left Buffalo and made his way down to Tampa, FL, where he and his wife married and started their family. Since becoming a parent, balancing the challenges of a career and a family has changed his interests. It’s no surprise that Nathan’s main hobby outside of work is keeping up with his two young children.

“I love to play golf, and I love to fish,” Nathan says, “but my priority is being with my family. That’s where I like to spend my free time. They are what drives me every day.”

In addition to being proud parents to their children, Nathan and his wife run the only active working black angus farm in the city of Tampa. Among its inhabitants are several cattle, chickens, and Molly the donkey—who has become an unexpected family protector and a popular topic in Nathan’s business meetings.

Looking to the Future

As RxBenefits’ CCO, Nathan’s vision is to strengthen relationships with the brokers, clients, and members that we support, by enhancing the services provided so that we will continue to evolve in the ever-changing pharmacy benefits industry. To express his excitement of the opportunities ahead, Nathan often reflects on a quote from former Buffalo Bills head coach Marv Levy, the winningest coach in Bills’ history:

“There’s no place that I’d rather be than right here, right now.”
